It brings me immense pleasure to share that I, along with 24 other WOMEN bloggers are celebrating #9daysofwomanhood throughout Navratri. I thank my friend and co-blogger Preetjyot Kaur Mehra for introducing me. I am a huge fan of her blog My Little Muffin where she talks about breaking stereotypes and raising her girls with power and strength!

The Prompt for today is “My First Year with mmy Kids”.

BY now my previous two blogs about being pregnant with twins and delivering twins were full on emotional blogs and I don’t want this one to be the same. So my first year with my twins, Ishu Mishu, were different than these two phases! I was depressed for sure and it took me 6 long months to actually fall in love with my kids or to experience that crazy mother and child bonding. I went through a different set of difficulties at least in the first 6 months:

  • Struggle with sleep and feed schedules
  • Absolute inability to generate and provide BF to my kids. In fact, I did not make enough for even one child.
  • Long separation from husband
  • Summer heat
  • Unmanageable health issues of my twins
  • Severe reflux to one of them that pretty much could have lead to his death. He survives with a flat head on one side, for which I hold guilt forever.
  • With plans to come back, but no support to help here with two kids
  • Extreme body pain, back pain, and the typical loss of sensibility (Mommy brains)

But, I don’t want to talk about these things in detail.

No matter how strong a part they play in what I am, what I learned and how I raised my sons, but that level of negativity, does not need this level of attention.

In fact, I only want to take you all through some details and a picture gallery of my beautiful, crazy, awesome, weird, moments through that precious first year. Sorry, this is going to be along post!!

Ishu:

Ishu was the one who kicked in my belly like a footballer. His voice would be so loud, that everyone knew that there’s a baby crying in the building. He had a weirdly funny face as a child and would cry even more funnily. We used to call him a ‘khadoos purka’, meaning a cranky, really old man.

He grew up to be a chirpy and extremely active boy. Always on the go. He loved to dance and listen to music but often suffered from colic. Back then I did not know how much colic can affect a child. I just kept feeding them formula, till they’d sip themselves to sleep. I know I cant change that, but with my blogs, I can at least help more people worrying about this issue. he also started babbling first. at about 3 months, he would while and giggle and make attempts to communicate.

Mishu

Also fondly known as Mithi, or mithai, he is just like his name. Sweet, calm, but brilliant. But don’t underestimate the mess he can create. I have had some horrible days with Mishu’s ‘brilliance’ coming to play. He was the one who cried softly and was apparently the cuter of the two when they were little. He’d eat on time, and prefer sleeping on time.

He loved colors and interactions. He loved to be tickled by our long hair on his face and his smile was brilliant. He was the one to get such a strong reflux at about 1 months of age that the doctor said if you are not careful, I do not know what can happen and even the worst may. We could fix the GERD but not a flat head he got in the meanwhile. I’ll live with that guilt I guess. He did not start babbling until at least 8 months, and would still gurgle sparingly.

He just loved to cuddle and hug me, without one single sound. A lot of times we had to check if he’s awake or asleep, but he was well awake!
